Medical massage/soft tissue work is a targeted therapeutic treatment aimed at addressing specific conditions, injuries, or pain-related issues. It involves a variety of massage techniques designed to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and promote healing. Unlike relaxation massage, medical massage focuses on specific areas of the body to treat conditions such as pain including chronic pain, muscle tension, and injuries.

While regular or Swedish massage is often used for relaxation, medical massage/soft tissue work is an advanced therapeutic approach focused on treating specific health conditions. It involves specialized techniques to address the underlying causes of pain, inflammation, or dysfunction, and may be part of a treatment plan alongside other healthcare professionals. We accept out of pocket only even if we’re working alongside other healthcare professionals.

We work with many healthcare professionals and any healthcare professional may refer you to us. However, a referral is not necessary. If you would like us to be in collaboration with a certain healthcare professional, we may certainly do that. You as well as a referral can also help guide us to address your specific medical condition more effectively.

It is rare that massage therapists accept insurance. We do not accept insurance either.

The most amount of pain we want during your massage is, “It hurts so good”. We need your feedback throughout the massage to ensure the most optimal results. It’s important to communicate with your therapist throughout the session on if you desire any changes in lighting, pressure, or temperature. Also communicate on if your body prefers certain spots of pressure.

Yes, while medical massage/soft tissue work primarily focuses on treating specific physical conditions, it also tends to reduce stress and anxiety. This holistic benefit often complements other forms of treatment for mental health.

Some mild soreness may be expected along with fatigue. Fatigue is normal and expected and fatigue lets us know that the work being done is working. These side effects are generally short-lived, up to 3 days, and can be alleviated by staying hydrated and resting. If you have any concerns, discuss your concerns with your therapist.

Medical massage/soft tissue work can be beneficial for a variety of conditions, including chronic pain (e.g., back or neck pain), muscle injuries, arthritis, sciatica, migraines, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, post-surgical rehabilitation, and sports-related injuries.
